Day 5 - Gimmelwald #genevajordan2022

Good morning! Today it is not as cloudy, lost some sleep to my dad snoring since we're sharing a room but it's all good, now it's breakfast time

Breakfast is done, me and the wife are going to go for a short-ish hike while my dad and his stay back and kind of chill a bit because his back is hurting since he had a shoulder surgery recently

Quick update, still alive, did the hike to Chilchbalm, then went back, ate, then walked to Mürren, back down, then now waiting for fondue dinner, will update properly later but for now some neat pics

Ok in bed... Where did we leave off, the start of the Chilchbalm hike which according to he resident Argentinian at the hotel was "flat, easy and even your dad could do it with his newly fully replaced shoulder" spoiler: this was not true

Don't get me wrong it was an a crazy hike in terms of difficulty and given the fact that we're in the Alps maybe grading on a curve it's flat (heh) but it's wild he thought it would be safe and ok for someone so recently operated on

As for the hike itself it was really fun, total time was around 3 hours with some spent looking around the area at the end. The trail is sort of nestled between the mountains so you get some really nice views as you walk when you can afford not to look at the floor

A lot of little water falls from streams sliced further up the mountains ad we walked

Also fairly wooded in certain portion which is kind of neat, nature doesn't acre about cliffs i guess, also the weather was pretty great, no heatwave and not hot enough to make it uncomfortable but sunny and ear skies

We started going down a bunch and then up up up, think total was around 400 something meters of elevation with some fairly steep gradients, some lower but more consistent ones and while it started very paved it eventually becomes a bit more tricky

At the end you're rewarded with some amazing views of a glacial basin cut of out the mountains that I took a photo sphere of here (not sure how well it is displayed on iphones but works on my machine)

Got to refill (and drink) water from the mountain spring which was neat and very good water

Then it was time to head back which was the scarier part as, while less tiring, steep inclines can be spooky.

Then had a non alcoholic cider and decided to wait for dad and his wife who went on their own walk, after that decided to head for Mürren.

These guys are just vining mid air.

The walk to Mürren isn't too bad, probably under an hour even without a shortcut and going slow to let my dad's shoulder not get too crazy tomorrow.

Mürren is much bigger than Gimmelwald and is the hub of the area for summer and ski seasons, many more lodges and newer buildings

Meant to say the paragliders were vibing midair but anywho, dome last Mürren pics where we asked about the Via Ferrata which involves climbing with harnesses and rope bridges etc but it looked too intimidating to do unsupervised and no slots lefto

Oh also learned outside winter the town just doesn't sell medicine which ok, go off

This time after we walked back down while they cablecar-ed, dinner was fondue (pictured) which was not a mistake, should have ordered it yesterday too. The shower after getting back felt soooo good too (not pictured)

They got so red near sundown, and then the color suddenly poofed. After this we settled down and played some Whist and Spades before heading to bed but not without a peek at the stars which were lovely.

Tomorrow some morning stuff, then drive, then a gorge, then a new inn somewhere
