Day 3 - Cobá + ? #mexico2021

After an early wake up we are here but where are the people

Ah ok we made it, they're just hiding, no one is here though

Here's our guide, it's followed us almost 2km

We're rushing to the big pyramid to see it before people get here

Went to pyramid, walked back then got a guide, will update more later but the dog guide followed us this whole 3.5 km route

Now we drive to Valladolid to see what we can see

Welcome to Valladolid

We got hit by an unexpected time change when we entered the state

Lunch time

In an hour at a Mayan place

Hard to update during but now at food after a hot walk that included goats

Started off with a chaya (spinach like green from the area) and lime drink that was quite refreshing and a "Mayan" coffee eg some chocolate and spices

Pumpkin seed and tomato dip

Starters

Chaya empanada

Panucho K’ek’en Píibil

Fried corn tortilla with beans, traditional pork píibil, tanned onion.

Polok waaj

Corn dough and beans handmade tortilla, ixcatik, chaya, onion, tomato.

Kaax Píibil

Traditional chicken in banana leaf; achiote, sour orange, spices, rice.

K’úum

Steamed local pumpkin, sautéed local vegetables, tortilla.

Very concentrated cocoa, one with chili one w/o and strawberry mezcal sauce

All this for like $60 CAD was a steal

At Chichen itza's hotel now, gonna buy tickets for the light show

Going soon for the light show starts at 8 (in 2 hours) but opens at 7 so we get to walk around the ruins at dark.

Now I'll update the stuff from Cobá

After our dog tour brought us to big pyramid I have to say it was quite imposing and because we went right at 8 we were the only humans there qhich was awesome.

Now technically it did say not to go up but also it previously let people so...

I'll need to get the in progress climbing pics after from Farah (it's her bday btw)

Intermission to the asynchronous storytelling to get ready for the light show at Chichen Itza

Update, they cancelled the light show part which is disappointing but we did get to see the sights lit up for free which is cool. We'll see them tomorrow in the daylight and I'll add in more of what I did today at some point... Hopefully
