Time for early morning Chichen Itza
-
Huh the power had been out since 'unknown', the lights didn't work and my phone was only at 83%, but it came back at exactly 7:00
-
Also this was like the weather in Toronto the day before we left, susge
-
We just finished a 3 hour tour of Chichen Itza with our guide Efraim aka Jimmy and now on the way to Mérida
-
So now let us backtrack, we got to Chichen Itza at like 8 and the line to get tickets took 30 minsish, cash only
-
We found "Jimmy" there, a true vet whose been a guide there since 1966
-
He gave us a 3 hour tour and I'm amazed he does this probably multiple times a day, day after day because in the heat it's rough, the cold from this morning went poof
-
This is part of the ancient wall, which was once up to 9feet tall, it's so impressive how these things stand the test of time
-
Chichén Itzá was declared a UNESCO world heritage site and on 7/7/2007 one of the new 7 wonders of the world
-
Some dogs spectating the ancient ball "game"
-
Unlike the Cobá guide, we learned the ball game was probably more a ceremony to prove you were worthy of being sacrificed to the serpent god, but also there's almost no real evidence of how it actually went
-
You can see some of the carvings here giving hints, they show the eagle and jaguar warriors beheading someone who was presumably one of the players
-
Updates are tough to do while Farah drives because most of the road has no signal
-
Then i switched to driving and now in Mérida, more updates to come
-
A couple of "close" calls on very poorly designed roads were a bit spook
-
Poolside chilling
-
We decided to chill in today because why not, almost fell asleep, ordered Mexican Uber eats to see what we get
-
Yes..
